Let's Talk...

... about the core and pelvic floor.

Back pain and pelvic floor dysfunction have a lot in common: they are two of the most common reasons people seek medical care. Back pain can be debilitating, and pelvic floor dysfunction can result in urinary incontinence, sexual discomfort, and a range of other unpleasant symptoms.

Pelvic floor dysfunction is the inability of the pelvic floor muscles to manage the weight of its contents, which is often exacerbated by weak, imbalanced core muscles.  Numerous studies have shown hatha yoga to be effective for back pain, especially in physical function and quality of life measures, but what does the science have to say about yoga for pelvic floor health? Not enough in the medical journals, unfortunately. But pelvic exercises similar to hatha yoga postures are often prescribed by pelvic physiotherapists, which anecdotally have a very good effect on relieving several symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction.

So it's no surprise that many yoga poses are effective for both conditions, and often can prevent problems from arising, even as we age. Having had three children over the course of 18 years, I can attest to the effectiveness of pelvic floor anatomy re-education and yoga postures for core strength and pelvic floor health at any age!

I want everyone to know that these issues do not need to be inherent in getting older, and what we do about it now can make a difference. This is why I'm aiming to teach  "Your Core & Pelvic Floor" in various locations in 2025.

My workshops include a full-color illustrated handout and access to the video recording of the class to enrich your understanding.

If you have a space, I'm currently looking for hosts in the Southern California area. Let's talk!

CEUs: Yoga Teachers can earn 2 contact hours and 2 non-contact hours of anatomy training for Yoga Alliance. All participants will receive access to the recording of the workshop at no additional cost.
